Roland A90EX + VERD-1 Piano Expansion new
      #987533 - 15/05/12 10:13 AM
Hi Guys,

Does anyone rate the A90 piano feel? I have read on here it is good but need more info, particularly how it compares to a Fantom G, for example. It is, after all, from 1996.

How close to the real deal are either of these? I am currently borrowing a RD300NX and it's nice but I would prefer something a little lighter, it doesn't have the loose feel I remember of a beautiful Yamaha piano I played at Abbey Road many years ago. The action was so sweet it sound like my playing improved, hugely, overnight. Now a master controller like this would be perfect

Oh, and how much would a A90EX + VERD-1 Piano Expansion be worth? There's one on eBay for £700 or best offer but I feel that is too much. I was thinking more around £400 - £500 for a perfect example.

Cheers,
Peter

Erm ... feel is very subjective. I'd rate the A90 as probably the best that Roland produced (barring the old RD1000) and is a nice action. But 'nice' for me..? Could be nasty for you ...

Price-wise, yes - I agree that 4-500 is closer to what I'd be prepared to pay.

Yeah, I understand so I'd be looking at something like the RD (which, accorindg to the Roland website, has a Ivory Feel-G keyboard with Escapement) but with a softer feel. Then there's the Fantom G, which has a weighted PHA II “Ivory Feel” keyboard, I haven't yet tried this.

I am tempted to make another offer on the A90EX but, until I know how the action compares to the RD and Fantom, it's too much of a punt, especially if I'm to make a better offer than I initially planned.

Cheers,
Peter

Oh, if I'm reading correctly... the A90 and A90EX are exactly the same other than the EX offers sounds (from the VERD1 board)... the non EX is just a controller with no sounds? That would be better for my needs!!!
