Cheaper DAC?

I'm looking to hook up an Apple TV to my domestic analogue sound system, so I need an optical toslink to analogue DAC.

I'm aware of the pro solutions, but really I'm after something way cheaper, which in theory will still deliver a reasonable sound, given that even basic converters are satisfactory for domestic purposes.

Any ideas anyone?

If I was in your position, I would use my old Sony DAT machine. The heads are worn out so it doesn't really work as a DAT machine but the D/A convertor is still working so it should be fine for TV sound. There must be thousands of these old machines sitting around doing nothing.

I've still got a Sony DAT recorder somewhere as well
