Any 2-tier keyboard stands with laptop holders out there?? new
      #989591 - 25/05/12 02:54 PM
Hi, I have been looking for something for a while now. I have a need for a dual-tier keyboard stand that has a laptop holder on it as well. I am currently using a quik-lok z-stand, which has a nice laptop holder attachment but it is nowhere near portable. Quik-lok had an SL-820 which looked promising but they discontinued it due to problems. I was hopeful when they announced the follow-on SL-920 but I just called and they cancelled that as well.

I saw Howard Jones and he used Roland V-Stands. One of the members had a 2-tier V-stand with other attachments on it that help a laptop along with other devices. Though I can't find any attachments for it either.

With the prevalence of laptops on stage these days, I'm really surprised nobody has a simple, portable stand that can hold 2 keyboards and a laptop. If anyone knows of something out there, please let me know. One of my keys is almost 80 lbs so it needs to be sturdy.

Thanks for your help!

I have a 2-tier stand with a laptop holder.

(Well, it's actually a 3-tier stand with a plank.)

Konig and Meyer

I've got one of these spider pro stands,(prefer them to the Ultimate support Apex ones)as they are better for placing foot pedals)they do an add on laptop stand in the accessories part, haven't got one myself on my stand but it looks cool

They are more sturdy than the Apex stands(Mine has a Fantom G8 on the bottom and a V synth GT on top tier,so they hold a substantial amount of weight)and are more stable than the Apex ones i've used in the past and the good thing is the tiers are tiltable whereas the Apex stands are fixed other than height adjustable, with the spider one makes the top keyboard more comfortable to play and viewable because of being able to tilt them

Great for gigging as they fold up really easy and to transport, this fits in the foot space of my rear seats in the car,no wider than say a couple of mic stands bundled together.

They're not cheap though but worth every penny, used the Quiklok stuff but they are far too bulky for gigging unless you got a van,had a few problems with welds on those stands too and the plastic handles on the tier adjustables snapping or threads stripping on them, quiklok stuff is ok so long as you not gigging with them or change your setup very often, because of their bulk are prone to being damaged easily

I did see this before but I was a bit afraid of the max weight capacity of each tier. I guess my motif is a little lighter than I thought but it's still over 60 lbs. The max capacity of the stand tier is 77. I was a bit concerned about the wight of the keyboard plus playing it might be too much. If you look at most of the other stands, the max tier weight is usually over 100lbs.

The pic they have has 1 tier plus the laptop holder. Do you know if you can have 2 tiers plus the laptop holder?

I guess I didn't include it in my specs but I do like the laptop being held off to one side like the defunct quik-lok stand (http://www.musicalstore2005.com/images/SL820_25_27.gif) (btw-I have become less of a quik-lok fan over the years...quality isn't there like it used to be).

I might take another look at this stand though. Thanks!

The laptop stand fits at the top of the stand so you can have two tiers plus the laptop part,(try google)for another pic with 2 tier models,I have certainly seen the 2 tier models,I just used this picture to show you the laptop part, this model look like the reduced height one, hence probably why there is no second tier pictured

While browsing the Internet for a new stand I found that both Quiklok and K&M are making double tier stands with a laptop holder.

Both manufacturers actually offer many solutions, but in any case you have to get it in 3 parts: base stand + second tier + laptop holder.

Cheers

Unless there's something new, K&M seems to have the only one with the most portability. Quik-Lok had the SL820 that they discontinued, then promised the SL-920 which never got released and was scrapped (called them last week). They do have Z and X stands with the capability but not a portable.

Thanks for the reply.

Jaspers do some good stands - very light - and includes laptop attachments - but tend to be modular (come apart in bits) and so not quite so suitable for quick-set-up at gigs. Thomann.de stock them.

It depends on what you mean by portability (I thought many times about making my own full-aluminium really foldable stand, with removable wheels), but their table stand has the same shape as a stage piano when folded, making it easy to stack. They make a second tier and a laptop holder as options.

You might be interested in the WS-550 stand (folds into a compact T shape). It can have many options, including second tier, laptop holder, etc.

I have the K&M stand above and the laptop holder. I can confirm you can use both tiers and the laptop holder at the same time.

Re. the weight i use an 88 key weighted controller and play pretty heavy. The stand gives me confidence it wont collapse.

My bug bear with the laptop attachment is that its not particularily quick to attach and it doesnt fold up small to transport. It attachs via 5 screws from memory which isnt ideal for gigging (there is no where to stow the screws). Compareds to the stand its bulky and an awkward shape to slot into the van with the rest of the gear.

I would recommend the stand but not particularily with the laptop attachment if you are a typical pub/function band type player looking for quick setup and quick exit.
