Cubase's own VariAudio does 90% of what I need these days. The seamless integration is a
huge winner, making adjustments and re-work very simple. Thankfully it also sounds pretty
good too.

Logic flex or Melodyne, depending on the needs of the task.

Thanks for that, The Elf!
What kind of situations do you find challenge VariAudio consistently? Certain
kinds of singing styles (raspy, or swooping into the notes), or maybe something else like
how it handles multiple parts?
The not having formant correction - I'd think
that'd be challenging, but maybe not?
Thanks for any further awesome insights!

Formant correction is unimportant for slight changes (and if you're looking for more than
slight changes then VariAudio is maybe not the tool for the job).
VariAudio can
sometimes create a garbled sound on certain notes. I've not discovered a consistent
pattern to the problem. It's just something you have to be aware of - editing the pitch
detection bars usually cures it. The longer you spend editing the pitch detection before
applying any correction, the better the results are. Often I'll reduce the corrected
portion to a fraction of the overall note length and that's enough to sound corrected
without sounding obviously processed. Removing detection from consonants and breaths is
not always necessary, but if you spend the time doing it you're more likely to get
something you like at the end.
Multiple parts are fine. If the going gets tough
for your computer then you can always flatten the processing.
And yes, correct
only that which needs correcting.

+1 The Melodyne plug with DNA( Direct Note Access ) allows you to
get inside of chords, great for adapting Keyboard, and horn phrases.

Melodyne Editor (with DNA) for pitch duties, Logic's Flex function for timing issues (it's
a little more user-friendly than Melodyne for this).

Thank you The Elf and everyone for some great and helpful
answers!
Do people find that these programs have a harder time correcting
raspy, sandpaper-cigarette-whiskey singers (like Ray Charles, early John Lennon, Mitch
Ryder) than smooth voicers?
