Tascam interfaces

Hi, everybody. I just got my new mac G5. My old setup was a mac G4 with an RME Hammerfall connected optically to an old Yamaha 01V for input/output. I decided to improve my preamplifiers and AD-DA converters with a new interface and I am between either an RME Fireface or a Tascam 1884. I now that a FIREFACE must be flawless, but with the same money I can get also a respectable controller; but what about mic-pres, converters and drivers of the TASCAM? Thank you, in advance.
