Recording Device Recommendations
      #995837 - 02/07/12 10:29 PM
I have a Cubase system set up in a room not suitable for recording vocals. I have another room much better adaptable. I'd like to record in the latter space to a digital device that allows me to listen to a reference track for tempo & tuning and record multiple takes, which I could then import to Cubase (sample rate 48,000).
However, in my cursory searches, the devices that offer this capacity have sported a gazillion other features, such as faders, effects, and general audio bling, that I would be paying for, never using, and lugging back and forth.
I'd be deeply grateful if some of you experts could make recommendations.

This seems like a job for a Zoom R16. Ok, it does more than you need. But it's not expensive, and very portable!

Or must recording and monitoring be on the same device? Play the track on any digital player (got an iPod?), record on any digital recorder. Synch will probably be quite OK.

How about a long mic cable and some kind of remote control for the computer?

James.

Thanks, Exalted One!

Brilliant idea about the iPod.

I'll check into this, and I'm open to more suggestions.

Yeah, James. I did that setup at my old place, because my computer fans sounded like a 747.
Long cables (mic, headset, keyboard) no monitor, because in addition to my laziness about connecting the cable sections and stringing the mess to the other room, monitor cables are too fat to allow the door to close properly. Without a monitor, it's really easy to wear yourself out, confident you've got usable takes, then find out you hit the wrong key somewhere early on, and got nothing recorded.

If I had a fair bit of cash lying around, I could go wireless on a few of the connections, but not all.

I was hoping for the Magic Device that would allow a quick setup.

Thanks for responding, though.
