      #948636 - 23/10/11 12:05 AM
I plan to hang a duvet behnd me for recording vocals. However, there are many types...some quite expensive. Down, Synthetic?

Any suggestions?

James

Nothing with feathers in it, they'll sink to the bottom.

I'd say something synthetic, cheap and as thick a winter tog as you can for your money! You're looking at avoiding the majority of high and mid frequency close reflections, but the thicker your duvet the better it will deal with frequencies 500Hz and under, even though the majority of the usable vocal range sits higher than that (as a generalization).

Hope this helps.

Alun

Yes, the cheapest, thickest (highest tog rating) polyester double duvet you can find.

Must be plain white. Anything else gives coloured reflections.

Dave.

Don't forget - the higher the tog rating, the warmer the recording.

And when are we going to see SOS duvet covers for sale? Something in nice, heavy, black cotton with an embroidered SOS logo I think.

And a 'tube' stitched into them to pass a boom through.

I bet they would sell in moderate quantities...

I'd buy one even if I didn't need it

Hmmm, actually I don't need it

I have recently started to pay a lot of attention to this and yes, you can hear the softness! Lovely... Hugh? Is this pure madness or am I hearing nice soft fluffy tones?

Just don't use a 10 tog duvet or only the semitones will be soft and fluffy.
