Cubase 5 metronome issue

Hello all,
First of all, I excuse myself for asking what may be a dumb
question...my apologies.. Anyway, I am trying to record a simple audio (electric
guitar) track in Cubase 5 using Cubase's metronome (click) to keep me in time. I select an
audio file, record the guitar track and can hear the guitar and metronome clicking away
happily. So far so good..
The problem is, on playback (having turned off
'click' before playing back) on top of the guitar recording, I can still hear the
metronome, and can't lose it (it's just as loud as when I was recording the guitar track,
so it's not as if the click sound is leaking through headphones). I am guessing the issue
is somewhere within VST Connections, or some mapping settings, but having tried to
trouble-shoot this one, I'm not getting very far.
Can anyone help me with what
is probably an obvious question? Many thanks. Much appreciated. Richard223

The dreaded clik My QB5 clik is one minute there and not the next. I think it an
interface/driver problem. It got so tempremental that in every track now the first
thing i do is copy and paste a short clik sample on beat in Qbase across the grid for 5
minutes or so. Instant clik track that you can mute when ya dont need it.
Your problem sounds like a bleed over/soundcard configuration problem possibly. Have a look in audio connections and make sure your ins and outs are right (What
interface do you use?) and also the mixer channel ins and outs on the track to see
if they are assigned to just stereo ins and outs on each channel. If you have an
onboard sound card and are using another soundcard disable the onboard sound as well as
this can be a problem in its self. Are you going straight into your soundcard with
the guitar? (DI-ing) or a mic on a cab? oh and mac or PC? I remember in my
early years using QB having the same problem but it was mic bleed i forgot to mute the
monitors when recording guitar from a mic.......so got the guitar and the click all
through the mic.......... More info needed really.......

You'll need to methodically work through the signal chain to solve this one. It could be
that something in your audio interface's mixer that is routed back to the inputs to your
DAW. I also frequently see this happen when people use external hardware mixers, since the
routing is misunderstood. If you overdub any other tracks do they also contain the other
audio you're monitoring? For example, if you track a bass, then does the previously
recorded guitar end up on the bass track too?
The 'disappearing metronome'
is something I've had for a long time now with Cubase - it's certainly still happening in
the latest version and shows no signs of being fixed from what I can ascertain. I've
pretty much given up on it and habitually load up a simple drum pattern to work to.

Same here. It's what gives Cubase that live feel other DAWs lack
As others have said you are going to have to check the signal chain. What is your
current recording configuration?

Thanks guys for your postings. I appreciate you taking the time to reply to me. I'm
pleased to tell you that I have resolved the issue. From your comments I understood that I
needed to examine the routing from mixer (small Mackie 1202 desk, which I believe is even
superfluous to my simple needs) to the PC. In the end, I realised there was one button on
the Mackie that was pressed down that shouldn't have been (the mute button on 11-12, which
is my line in).
As is usually the case, one little button can bring down an
entire project. Sometimes I wonder if I'm not better off with my old Fostex 4 track!
Anyway, I'm back in business, so thanks again for bearing with me. Have a
good weekend all.
