cubase 5 clicking/popping with a fast track pro and low CPU usage new
      #962292 - 06/01/12 08:14 PM
Hi,

I have a fairly old dell pentium 4 with 1gig memory and am running cubase 5 along side a M-Audio fast track pro.

Even with the CPU around 20% i get lots of clicks and pops when i play recordings or use synths. NI Massive for example clicks a lot, but even just playing a wave i have recorded in get more clicks and pops than is reasonable.

Is it that my machine is just too old (CPU like I say goes to about 20% tops) or should I look for some sort of hardware conflict perhaps? Also cubase hangs when I close it through the file->exit menu so believe there is some driver probs at least.

Using Windows 7, everything else is rather standard really.

Any ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Windows 7 needs almost a whole gigabyte of RAM just to run itself , so it looks like you are running out of RAM before running out of CPU power .
An easy way to test for this would be to take advantage of Windows 7 's ReadyBoost feature ;
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows7/products/features/readyboost
Just connect a USB memory stick and follow the pop-up to select ReadyBoost .

I used to use Cubase 5 on a Pentium 4 laptop , but I added as much RAM as the laptop could take ( 2 GB ) and saw a great improvement .( No more hanging on exit ).
