Now that this has been discontinued, what would people recommend for a
weighted/semi-weighted 88 key controlled keyboard with midi controls built in as well? Its
for controlling Cubase. I was also very impressed with the value of the Pro88 as well.

Action sucks on the Pro88. Try a CME
controller.

Good action on the
"semi-weighted" CME I had - but the controller/knobs/transport implementation sucked.
One of the low end Yamaha or roland stage pianos? The Casio Privia felt nice when
I tapped it in Dawsons the other month. No sound on, so can't say how it really felt, but
the build quality seemed good for the price.

I'd agree the KS88 is far from perfect but the CME has mad software issues ( had one -
took it back & heard of quite a few others too )
To own the best action
requires a serious investment. My old K250 had superb action, pity is was pain to use
and seriously over priced !
I have a KS88 and it IS built to a price, but 99%
of the time, it is acceptable. If you are a concert pianist, then you will probably
hate it.
For value for money, I don't think it can be beaten

Look for the Fatar VMK188 range - http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/apr05/articles/fatarvmk188.htm
They're regularly on Ebay secondhand, and if it's an extremely good weighted
action you're after then it's a far better buy than any of the other keyboards mentioned
in this thread. The Keystation/Pro range have truly awful actions, they're best avoided at
any price.

I doubt you will beat a K250, but then I doubt you will find one ! That for me is the
best action ever, even better than a normal grand piano ( if that is possible ! )

A 25 year old instrument
with a better action than a normal grand piano, as well as the V-Piano???? I'm sorry, I
refuse to accept that on any level whatsoever as that would suggest that we have actually
gone backwards with regards to piano actions. And we haven't.

The K250 had a wooden keybed supplied by
Baldwin. Baldwin pianos were notably played by Igor Stravinski and John Williams. Whilst
buying a K250 as a controller is not a great idea it did actually have a very good keybed
and it is entirely possible that as it came from a piano manufacturer that it was as good
as some pianos.

Thankyou Jupiter !
I stand by what I said.
If any of you ever
get to own one, or even try one, you too will understand..... I had mine for a few
years and loved it to bits, despite being obtuse and frankly, bloody massive!

I agree with Scope on this one. I used to have a Kurzweil Midiboard. This too had a wooden
keybed like the K250. Absolutely fantastic action. Weighed a ton though!! Cost
over £4000 when new.
