DW8000 battery replacement - how easy is it to screw up? new
      #870280 - 24/10/10 03:49 PM
Just wondering as mine lost all it's patches quite some time ago and now I either have to do a sysex dump from the sequencer or create new patches on the fly as I need them - which, given the whole single parameter access carry-on, is a right, royal pain.

I can use a soldering iron a bit, and I understand from a few bits on the web that the battery is actually soldered onto the board.

Failing that approach (very likely), does anyone know any good synth repair outlets in Central Scotland that might do it for me - preferably for less than the cosat of a second-hand DW (I LOVE this synth btw - very underrated imho - ask Paul Nagle and he'll tell you the same )

Not easier than looking up into google and clicking on the first link.

Do it yourself.

Ah, thanks for that informed comment. Actually, substitute "informed" for "smarmy" and that about sums it up.

WHAT im trying to ascertain is, if anyone has done this, or if they havent, whether they think someone with relatively limited (not toally absent) tech skills can do it. I have of course seen mention online of this procedure, but since this is a FORUM where people INTERRACT (occasionally, but thankfully in the many years ive been a member, not usually unhelpfully) I figured it wouldnt do any harm to post such a query.

This is an amazing link, BTW. I loved my DW8000, now of course it needs a new battery. Been postponing it for years. The author of this link used to write editing software for the 8K, gives patch sysex's to d.l. and shows how to not only install a new battery but a holder as well. NICE

Dear I'm very sorry to assume your research beforehand. I got biased. Maybe due to so many people that I meet here had quite a lasting impression in my head. I had no clue if you had already looked upon google. And 'cause the first link was actually so descriptive that even I got engrossed reading it when I dont own DW8000, I thought it would help you figure it out and I feel bad and confess that it is, for sure, not so easy to swap the batteries in that synth. By the way thanks a lot for the word 'smarmy', I didnt know its meaning. Its hard to find aesthetics in the language in a tech forum. I'm sure you'll find a solution and wish you good luck.

LOL Aural Serenity that's ok Thanks. Yes, the link is an excellent one, and indeed the first thing you come across if you do a search. As I said, it wasnt so much the "how to" as "hmmmm, can I risk it? Is there much margin for error?" This link was actually a catalyst for posting in the first place since, as disclaimers go it's pretty alarming in a sort of "Pandora's Box", "ABANDON HOPE ALL YE WHO ENTER!!" kind of way
