Triggering samples with your feet
      #871278 - 28/10/10 03:15 PM
i'm looking for a device that can trigger samples with my feet.

i'm in a band that uses beats rather than a drummer and am a bit sick of fiddling with a sampler on stage.

the samples need to be up to 10 minutes long and wav quality

any suggestions?

i know this isn't a keyboard query but i can't think of an area of the forum it belongs

How about some MIDI bass pedals connected to a sampler?

10 minute samples, though?! That really not something I'd want to be triggering - press 'play' and come back 10 minutes later! It's not really the job of a sampler in my book.

Yep, pedals is the way to go.

However, I, on occasion, use a chimp called Alfred.
He is really good and in demand and will not be cheap.

Look in Readers Ads. I think the ad is called 'need a footjob......PM me?

There's a variety of sampler boxes for triggering - I use a Boss SP404 which streams from cards rather than needing to load into RAM. Sounds like your kind of box.

For triggering, it might be an idea to check out the Behringer midi switch unit for guitar effects - although it is primarily used to change patches on rack gear, each 'button' can be used to trigger a midi note and I believe (check this one) that it is per patch. That might be cheaper and easier to get hold of.

I've recently been messing around with a set of MIDI bass pedals and Ableton Live. It's a bit fiddly, but it could be quite a neat way for a singer/guitarist to work with loops.

+1 for Ableton Live. You can use any MIDI foot controller with it, and map it to pretty much anything in the application.

A Behringer FCB1010 with the UNO firmware, triggering Ableton Live (Live Intro, does it all, costs very little)
If you structure your WAVs into Intro/Verse/Refrain/Outro, you can change the order on the fly - if the audience is on the floor, yelling for more you can do that.

Nifty.

OK...

It doesn't meet your requirements... But you must be tempted by something like this.
