CME UF & Breath Controller Help! new
      #963453 - 12/01/12 07:44 AM
Hello all,

Long time reader, first time poster!

I recently purchased a Yamaha BC3a breathe controller to use with my CME UF60 controller, the only thing is that the manual is really vague and Pro Tools will not respond to it (controller is plugged in via USB).

Things I have tried:
- Tried assigning the controller to cc007 and cc011
- U-CTRL for pro tools on and off (while trying to get it to work)
- HUI active (peripherals) for with midiin2 (cme) for recieve and send to.

Using Pro Tools 9 (PC - win7) with BCF2000 control surface.

Are there any users out there that are succesfully using it? (what were your steps?)

(should the keyboard be connected via cable to the bcf2000? so it send the data via that controller)

Many thanks and hours of troubleshooting for your help!

M

can't help you on this but I am wondering how you are finding your CME? I was thinking of buying a uf50 with the Waldorf plug in but looking on youtube there seems to be a lot of problems.

Hi tallmanaudio, and welcome to the SOS Forums!

I’ve got CME’s UF8 and it works fine with a Yamaha breath controller -I just plugged it in and started blowing

However, before we go into any further detail, can we make sure that you realise that breath controllers by default output MIDI controller #2 data?

Sure you can reallocate this, but is controller #2 data reaching Pro Tools?

Hope this helps!

Oh, and SC - in my experience the problems with CME tend to be with the USB MIDI connection, so I simply use the UF8 standard MIDI out, and everything’s hunky dory. I like the action, the aftertouch, and the overall feel as much as I did when I originally reviewed it for SOS way back in August 2005:

Does that include the transport buttons? If it does, I will have regretted selling mine

Yes, USB was a mare. MIDI was acceptable as a basic controller and could configure the buttons/sliders for my DAW to an extent, so not actually that bad - certainly didn't have the freeze ups etc. Good solid 'board, with a nice synth action all in all.

Hi Matt,

Yes, I can use those, but with a proviso - I route all the MIDI data from my various MIDI controllers (88-key keyboard, 25-key editing keyboard and Korg nanoPAD2, all set to output on different MIDI channels) into the excellent MIDI-OX Utility, where it's massaged in various ways.

The velocity curves get tweaked so they are all as similar as I can get them and all generate the full range of 0-127, some controller data (e.g. Active Sensing) is filtered out) and various other MIDI messages are changed en route to whatever I need, at the same time converting them all to output on MIDI channel 1.

The end result is that I gain one 'composite' MIDI controller that does exactly what I want, including the CME Transport buttons

I must've read something similar in these parts, as I know I have MIDI-OX installed on the PC, but obviously I didn't persevere with the massaging enough! I think part of the problem was I got confused with all the different ports - although I think MIDI Yoke may also have been involved in this process. I'm pretty proficient in MIDI (I think...) but this probably comes from spending so long trying to get it all sorted Certainly once it's set up and working, last thing you want to do is fiddle...

Unless you're a violin player of course
