Effects Unit Recomendations?

I'm a decidedly dodgy guitar player but love using NI's Guitar Rig 2 to process my guitar
sounds. I'm looking for a hardware equivalent (for live work) of the Guitar Rig plug-in
that would provide the same array of FX (focussing on long sustain distortion etc.). Any
recomendations?
Thanks in advance!

I know one chord and don’t even know what is called, so pretty much rely on effects and
the hope that punk / noise will never die. Well I tried the Boss GT8 and
returned it with in 4 days. Everyone said its too complex to program but as a long time
nerd of flashing box’s it was as easy as pie. Sound wise though it was just
rubbish, so dull, my 10-15 year old boss pedals blew it away. So I took it back
and bought a load more separate pedals off ebay and now have lots of fun tap dancing. It really depends on how much your willing to spend and what sound you after, but
I think everyone should own at least one Digitech Wahmmy. If you after long
sustain & distortion then Electro Harmonix Big Muff ( get the little big muff, it’s the
same sound but better built case ) feed into an overdrive pedal or tube amp will give you
about as intense a noise as you could ask for. Other option is buy a laptop and
use it for guitar rig.

the forthcoming SM-Pro V-machines look like they'll do what you're after... by running
guitar rig on dedicated hardware.... (The V-pedal is what I'm thinking of in your
case... ) http://www.smproaudio.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=73

Aye — sounds like exactly what you're looking for. They're not cheap though...

How much? I cant find a price for them. I
like the look of them, but i get the feeling may be a bit out of my justifiable price
range.

the TC Electronics G System is probably the daddy of guitar multieffects. Youve also got
stuff like the POD series (i have an XT PRO but have only ever used it in the studio).

If you weren't interested in gain-based effects I'd have recommend the TC Electronic G
Major. A great piece of kit available at reasonable prices - possibly a little bit
fragile although I've had no problems with mine. Highlights include the configurable
compressor, and the really good spring reverb model. If you want gain then it's
PODs as far as I'm concerned. The XT is the one to look at. Other than that,
there are the Roland Virtual Guitar units. I 'd go for an 88 because it immediately looks
stage worthy but both the 88 and 99 get great writeups in SOS. Steve

I've got the Vox Tonelab. Really convincing and much better than the pod as it has a tube
pre which sounds great! Effects are top quality too.

I'm probably going to get shot down in flames for suggesting this but....... the yamaha
magicstomp is good value for the money.
I bought mine 2 years ago or so, and
i quite like how tweakable it is, prehaps not the most comprehensive pedal and it has no
expression pedal but it suits my needs.
Have been tempted by the vox tonelab
but not tried one out yet.
If its anything like the cooltron i've got then i'd
probably get it as soon as i try it

I have a POD XT and an old Oberheim GM1000.
I love the POD for its amp
modeling, which it excels at, and the GM1000 for its lush fx.
I have never been
that impressed with either the Boss or the Zoom multi fx units.

I am currently reviewing the Boss GT10 and am not that impressed with it. There is even a
lag when switching between patches - definitely not my idea of stage worthy. TC
electronics G major or their floor stomp model (G force?) might be where its at for you
coupled maybe with a multi distortion pedal, like say Sansamp TRI-AC or Tech 21
DoubleDrive.
