Echo Mia midi D/A interface (or alternatives)

Has anyone any experience of this. I am after a internally mounted sound card
for use with school PC's runing Cubase SE and in somecases Cubase 4. I was
wanting something like a small USB interface (e.g. Tascam) but from a security viewpoint
something internally mounted would be better. Has anyone any other
suggestions. Requirements.: 1/4 jack ins and outs, midi interface,
good latency for audio recording. Headphone socket. Sturdy, reliable and possibly front
case mounted or breakout box lead. ohh and cheap ish (£70 -100) http://www.echoaudio.com/Products/PCI/MiaMIDI/index.php

the obvious alternatives in that price range are the emu 0404 pci and the m-audio 2496 or
192. none of these come with a breakout box though. the delta 44/66 series does but they
have no midi I/O. the cheapest i can see is the delta 1010lt but thats about £120...

Echo supposedly have better drivers than EMU & M-Audio so i'm actually considering buying
the Mia midi myself along with a Benchmark DAC1.

that Delta 1010Lt is very messy with all
those leads!

I'm very happy with my Echo Mia (now feeding a Lavry DA10 via its S/PDIF output). You
won't find headphone sockets on PCI soundcards though, since it's such a fiddle to plug
them in round the back of your computer USB audio interfaces are far more likely to feature them. Martin

So the 1/4 balanced jack outputs
on the echo mia are line level? no use for headphones. Hadn'nt thought of that. Thats no
use then as it would need a headphone amp. Which is getting away from my aim of simplicity
and minimal leads.
Arrgh!! just when I thought I'd got a solution.

You'll get
some level on headphones, but it's not an optimal setup since most line level outputs like
to see an impedance of 10Kohm or greater, whereas many phones are only a few hundred ohms
or even less.
Remember also that balanced line-level outputs are on
individual quarter-inch jacks, so even if you got sufficient level without audible
distortion you'd have to make up a special adaptor to connect two balanced but mono stereo
outputs to a single stereo unbalanced headphone output.
