Hello all After about 5 years in the making, and owing not an insignificant
amount to the advice of the SOS forums (mainly through lurking, with the occasional post!)
you can now hear some tracks in full here: http://www.trafficexperiment.net/listen.phpHope you enjoy.

Good stuff! Sirens, particularly the opening vocals, is a remarkably haunting theme to me.
I'll be exploring your work at greater length with the purchase of your album. Can't wait
to hear it at full resolution!
EDIT: Unfortunately, your shopping cart system
says Paypal payment is "temporarily unavailable" and then redirects me to Paypal...again.
Is it a problem with US payments? Usually it converts to GBP with no problems.

Thank you for your comments! Very much appreciated.
Apologies that the site's
giving you a problem at the moment. I'm just having a quick look now to see what's going
on with it...

Hi Michael US payments appear to be set up OK. I've just tried a test order
from the US and that took me through to Paypal OK. I'm hoping it was just a temporary
issue with either Paypal or the Shopping Cart host but please let me know if you have any
further problems. Many thanks.

Oh, it takes me to Paypal, seems fine...then asks to confirm the order. At that point, the
system reverts to the "unavailable" message again and suggests, again, that I use Paypal.
From that page, it simply loops around suggesting Paypal, then saying Paypal is
unavailable.

It does specifically seem to be orders from the US that are experiencing this issue on the
site - a friend based out there has confirmed that he has the same issue - (it's not
personal, I promise!). UK and Europe orders are processing fine. I've now
raised it with both PayPal and the cart provider and hopefully between them we can get it
resolved asap. Apologies again.

Listening now. Liking the first track. I like lyrics, cannot pick them all up on one
listen, but sound like they're worth listening to.
Currently 2 mins into
Sirens... Oh man, the vox, or the lyrics at least, come in at 3 minutes!
And
that really makes it for me.
F**k all that 'get everything happening by 20 seconds'
crap that the mainstream supposedly needs. And what do they know when that institution
produces such dire excuses for music of an emotive nature.
"5 years in the
making". I thought as soon as i read that, ok here we go, might be ok. Well, thank you for
lifting my mood which wasn't too crash hot. Loving all the 'influences' i can hear.
Only 2 songs heard and if the rest of the album is as good as this (yet to hear
the third) then you should be very proud.
Just hope you can 'make it' on your
own. And that a huge corporate body doesn't ruin you.
Hey if you wouldn't
mind saying if that's you singing, what you are playing etc. Are you a band or whatever?
I'll check your site for such though. Nice website too! Like the speakers, bit like me old
JBLs.
Best thing i've listened to on this underused part of the forum
for years. Not that i really come here too much these days. But that's another story.
Well done. Those three tracks were fab.
I might even investigate buying a
CD if you have physical product. Mind you, well encoded downloads would be sufficient.
Really enjoyed those. Thanks.
Edit - You have a deal, or some
'backing' at least already, right. A good team whatever the case may be.
That's perfectly fine if you have.
I see you have CD etc.
Very good.

Excellent all round. Great tunes, great playing, great ideas, great recording, great
website, great vids, applause all round. I notice that you recorded at Woodworm
Studio as owned by a certain Steve Hill of this parish. Shows how using a 'proper' studio
in capable hands makes a LOT of difference. Advice to others... Sod
what monitors for under £100, which DAW sounds best, etc.... ask for the best rates on a
studio so that you get the job done properly ... like these good people have done! I am very impressed ... and that takes a lot these days. I wish you all
the very best. And you should try bothering Radcliffe and Maconie with your
work - right up their street for their popular and excellent evening wireless spot.

More's the shame that he had to close the studio to punters.

Thanks for your kind comments guys - they're very much appreciated and mean a lot. Quote:

No deal or backing. It's
all been self-funded (which is part of the reason it's taken so long!). But the advantage
was that it gave me plenty of time to really think about the album and make it the way I
wanted to and put in the things I love about the music I listen to (like making people
wait 3 minutes for the first verse! )

Absolutely. It's such a shame that studios like Woodworm are having to close
to the public because, for a period, it seemed like it was a really good time for artists
(if not the studios themselves) to be able to afford getting into good studios with good
engineers and get some great recordings done. Just not enough of them (the artists) seem
to want to do it which is a shame.

Hi all,
For what it's worth, I'm proud of this too. Took a while. Client kept
running out of funds. But he would not compromise (on anything). Bought a grand piano -
we replaced the piano samples. Bought a Hammond - ditto. Bought a Rhodes - ditto.
Bought a lap steel guitar - ditto...
We're in an era where not many artists
will take this much trouble any more.
If Woodworm needs a tombstone, let it be
this.
And buy the bloody thing.

Amazing!!
Brilliant!!
Glad to hear. You can definitely tell these
guys care, about a lot of things. I am down with people not willing to compromise, it's
too bad the funds is always what get's in the way.
It sounds really nice Steve,
glad your proud..makes me dream of being able to do it up that big one day..
270 odd views...cmon, more people need to at least hear 'this..this' would be a great
hard copy to have.
instead of all those stupid copyright threads that go
nowhere people should take 10 minutes out of their day and check these guys out!!

C'mon, though. Spill the technical beans for us
saddos - what's going on in there? I love the sweet vocal sound in particular. How'd you
approach that?

Most of the time the vocals are a (UAD version of) a Fairlight compressor and a Neve 1073
EQ, with outboard reverb from the Lexicon 480L.
On the opening track of the
album where he wanted a rougher sound he made me add some distortion via a guitar amp.
He recorded most of the vocals at his home studio with middling equipment; I lent
him a Neumann TLM 170 which was used on some vocals.

Having just A/B-ed the 160Kb/s tracks against the original masters, can I seriously
implore anyone to listen to the CD!!!
God, I hate mp3s.

...am i allowed not to like it??
I admire the recording, and the
dedication.....but it's all a bit wishy washy for me....and a little like a bad pink
floyd/gabriel....
Doesn't really have the spark i'd like...not mellow enough
for mellow music - not edgy enough for excitement... a little dull for me...and sirens is
messy - i'm ok with groove - but i think the acoustic guitars are messing with the rhythm
of the drums - which sound as if they're a million miles away from everything else...just
a little too ramshackle for my tastes...(IMHO - which isn't really that valid or important
to be fair!)
hmmm...

yeah - a little harsh maybe, and i am sorry that it sounds that way (ie.. like bad
gabriel/floyd).... I think it's just not my cup o tea to be honest.....i think you
have a great rounded project with all the right bits and bobs in....just don't really like
it!
