Groove Tubes/Alesis Valve Mic Power Supplies
      #874039 - 10/11/10 09:39 PM
Hi,

I'm the happy owner of a Groove Tubes MD1B, and I have a question regarding its power supply.

I've read that the Groove Tubes PSM-1 power supply is compatible with many, or perhaps even all, of the Groove Tubes valve microphones.

I'm wondering if this compatibility extends to the Groove Tubes/Alesis microphones including the AM-61 and AM-62?

Thanks in advance.

complicated answer....

yes and no.

depends on the age,... sadly not all GT PSM1's are the same, some have 6 pin mic connectors, others have 7 pin, and they have different circuit boards, power transformers and who knows what else,...

thus not even all , for example GT67's or GT44's will connect to a given PSM1, (i know , i've got both kinds, of both mic, and both PSU)

and getting spares is nigh on impossible, thanks to bloody Fender.

early GT mics in fact have the alesis board..... in the PSU, so may well be entirely compatible.... but this is by no means certain.

That makes sense. When I read about the compatibility between microphones, I thought this might be a stretch.

And now that I dig further, I've found an old MIX article online that describes the AM61 using a 6-pin PSU cable, while my MD1B uses a 7-pin cable, so that bargain price on a used AM61 without power supply won't do me any good...

Thanks for the help!
