Mellowmuse ATA: is there any point?
      #878891 - 02/12/10 08:22 PM
Hey all,

Whilst the title is purposefully provocative (kind of!), I am not knocking the ATA software, just wondering if there is any point for me to buy it, because at the moment, perhaps naively, it seems as though I don't need it.

I'm running PT LE8, which obviously lacks the automatic delay compensation available in HD.* As an alternative to buying the ATA, could I not just insert a TimeAdjuster sample delay plugin on each track to match them all up once I know how much delay each track is accumulating?

Thanks,
ER.

* For the record, I can't afford to crossgrade to PT9 yet, so please don't suggest that

Spend the money you'd spend on the mellowmuse on the PT9 upgrade and all your problems are sorted.....

Lol even though I said please don't suggest PT9, you seem to have changed my mind...

If I were to look at crossgrading, where would be the best place to get it from? I'm still a student so where could I get discount?

I'm thinking the PT9 crossgrade (approx £230) would suffice, rather than PT9+inst pack or PT9+CPT2. I don't think I'd need the instrument pack and the Complete Production Toolkit would be overkill, for now at least. Besides, the CPT is way out of my price range.

My current setup could be described as something like this:
Digi 003 Rack Factory* with Pro Tools LE 8 + Music Production Toolkit 2**, plus the following plugs I've bought since having PT:
- Superior Drummer, EZ Drummer + 5 EZXs
- Sonalksis CQ1, DQ1, Creative Elements Suite, MaxLimit and StereoTools
- IK Multimedia CSR suite, Opto Comp, Linear Phase EQ, Multiband limiter, clipper, EQP1A
- Izotope Ozone4, Spectron and Trash

* 'Factory' features:
Digidesign Bomb Factory BF-3A Classic Compressor.
Digidesign Cosmonaut Voice.
Digidesign D-Fi bundle (Lo-Fi, Sci-Fi, Recti-Fi, Vari-Fi).
Digidesign JOEMEEK SC2T Photo Optical Compressor.
Digidesign JOEMEEK VC5T Meequalizer.
Digidesign Maxim.
Digidesign Moogerfooger Analog Delay.
Digidesign Moogerfooger Ring Modulator.
Digidesign SansAmp PSA-1.
Digidesign Tel-Ray Variable Delay.
Digidesign Voce Spin.
Digidesign Voce Chorus/Vibrato.

** MPT2 features:
Mix up to 64 mono or stereo audio tracks
Digidesign Eleven LE
Digidesign Hybrid 1.5
Digidesign Smack! LE
Digidesign Structure LE
Digidesign TL Space—Native Edition.
Multitrack Beat Detective
Pro Tools MP3 Option

I've found the LE > PT9 crossgrade for approximately £99, which is awesome!
Regarding the instrument pack, I've already got Structure LE and Hybrid LE, so I can't really warrant spending £252 on the instrument pack. However, I really like the look of Velvet which is £209 on its own :-\

And yeah, the CPTK2 would be complete overkill for me at the moment

Where have you found the crossgrade for £99? That makes it a total no brainer for me.
