Video element has escaped!
      #915348 - 20/05/11 08:30 PM
I notice the video section of the magazine has begun to leak into the main part of the magazine and is polluting it with it's completely nothing to do with music or sound recording ideas. Please strengthen the video section bars to prevent it escaping again, or worse still, feasting on audio articles and growing until "Sound On Sound" becomes "Sound On Vision" or something ghastly like that. Seriously. SERIOUSLY.
Should Sound On Sound have a video section?

Hey Joe

It seems to me that the video content in the latest mag is rather less than in previous issues. Can this be so? If it is, I'm surprised I haven't seen any comment about it in the forum.

cheers
Charlie

I didn't notice it being less, but you could be right! I really hope it dies out, I find it totally inappropriate for an audio magazine and I feel a bit cheated out of the few pages it takes up! Even the guy who writes it gets up my nose - honestly, who lists themselves with their middle initial? I think I'm getting rather petty now, I better get on with some work...

I don't think it will die out -- a lot of our readers like and appreciate it. Also, SOS is an audio technology magazine and, like it or not, the real convergence of audio, video, computer and other technologies makes awareness and understanding of video important and relevant to a lot of people.

You haven't been cheated of anything. We ADDED pages to host the video section. Exactly the same number of editorial pages are available today for audio matters as there ever were in recent years.

Yes, I think maybe you are...

All your points are valid Hugh, and I stand corrected on the 'cheated of pages' thing. However there are myriad publications to cover the other disciplines that my studio life may bring me into meaningful contact with. I still can't see how video can possibly justify more than a 'how to sync music to video' or 'how to make music for film' section - reviewing products and film techniques is definitely outside the remit of a music technology magazine. The discipline that I come into contact with most in my day to day studio life, other than the actual music stuff itself, is making sandwiches - so how about a sandwich section? I bet more readers eat sandwiches than make videos! Lol. Rant over. Bedtime.
