See http://www.arturia.com/evolution/en/products/minimoogv/minimoogv-original.
htmlIt appears to be a cut-down version of their commercial synth, but
probably worth checking out.

'Server overloaded, go to Facebook'
No surprises there then, and there is no
way I am becoming a FaceAche unit

I
don't believe that server overloaded guff either. If being a customer of Arturia means you
have to get sucked into the FB regime then I'll do without their products

Wow, people are really cynical these days. eh? So many complaints in so many forums over
this "PR Disaster" as some have called it. So many getting so annoyed that a company might
want to give you something for free...
Initially, there were two ways to get
the freebie - one directly from Arturia, and one from Facebook. Within the hour before the
download became active, Arturia's site slowed to a crawl, and for the first hour had
difficulty serving any pages at all. That continued for quite some hours, and at some
point they presumably made the decision that this was crazy, their own servers couldn't
handle it and people were getting annoyed, so they removed the option to do it directly
(Facebook can handle that level of load much more gracefully).
I hate Facebook
too, and wouldn't have registered to get a freebie, but it seems rather silly to complain.
If you don't like the terms of their offer, no one's forcing anyone to take part in it.
It seems to have been quite a PR success - the freebie was advertised on pretty
much all music sites, and Arturia have been overloaded with the response. Plenty of people
who didn't have, or wouldn't consider an Arturia synth now have one on their system and
can evaluate it to see whether they like it, and Arturia have a bunch of exposure, good
will, Facebook props and email addresses as a result. TANSTAAFL and all...
Seems to have worked out well for everyone, except perhaps some other manufacturers of
competitive software who might feel a bit miffed...

Have to say I'm still waiting for my confirmation e-mail, but to be fair, they did say it
could take 48 hours.
Looking forward to messing with it, though!

I managed to get through on the site yesterday afternoon, got the email instantly, but had
a small problem downloading. I got it downloaded eventually.

Downloading from the ftp site right now. It's working, slowly. Glad I'm not on dial-up
like the old days. Wonder if I can trade in my broadband router for a pigeon
loft Andy

Although the download links or torrent file is freely available if you search around (it's
not a secret), you need to register with Arturia and get a username and reg code to
actually use it... it's against the TOU to distribute the software and/or your own reg
details, unfortunately...

I think it was a pretty successful promotion, myself. I've been looking at Arturia stuff
before, but never really pulled the trigger. The free Mini synth turns out to be a really
good-sounding softsynth, and I am now seriously considering buying some of their
products.
