sorry I thought we were trying to get away from all that

well I don't know about all the specs because I'm not all that interested but I have had encounters with various incarnations of the Pentiums / Athlons & so on - I know enough to know that the systems being used have generally got 'faster' over this time. People making their own have generall made the point that the latest is faster bigger

Does Soundscape count as a high-end system?I had a basic sytem a couple of years back & I've worked around a few expanded systems a few times as - as a matter of fact my nephew used to work for them for a couple of years on technical support - he's 1 of the experts I know that believes in rolling his own

In fact he's building a high-end system as we speak & will be if we continue this conversation for a couple of months probably - he's offered to build me 1 as well - sh*t I just remembered he's been building mine based on an AMD box I gave him 7 years ago!

anyway I'm really not suggesting that PCs are inherently crap - just the arguments about them

I can appreciate that there are now 'high-end' systems that are a lot more stable, powerful than previously available - but I'm guessing that could apply to extensively tweaked, customised mac set-ups as well

I've worked in a couple of PC based studios quite successfully but that was working with people with other skills & equipment that maybe didn't need to rely on their PCs as much - there's a lot of stuff they just don't bother with.

& while I'm definitely not saying that Mac based studios are inherently 'better' than Windows 1s - there is at least some kind of [superficial] indication that Mac studios are serious & selective [albeit misguided] about their gear - too often Windows studios seem to think it's ok to just chuck in a PC & if it doesn't work we can just blame the gremlins

but aside from all this, I think I may have come to the nub of this matter

some kid spends all his time & effort making a new peecee & after all that some clever-clogs comes along with his off-the-shelf Apple which does everything better, easier, even faster, shinier, sexier

so then 'Dexter' has to develop some kind of defence strategy about why Macs are crap - he can even get a shiny sexy sony to counteract their image crisis - so Apple owners can then be seen their inferiority s some kind of elitist freaks - & they in turn get all defensive & start all their attempts to undermine Windows platform & on it goes...
