As a completely useless aside, I was always taught that maximum cable length for serial interfaces depended on what sort of interface spec it was (RS232, RS422, USB etc) and the data rate on the cable. I seem to remember that RS232 at 64K was only about 10 feet. RS422 considerably more. Not sure what spec a PC midi (joystick) port is.
