there is no way usb 1.0 (the older, cheaper version) can handle 8 tracks. also, when figuring track count be sure to include playback tracks (ie, you want to multitrack and record overdubs, you're going to need to playback at least one track so you can monitor what your adding overdubs to.)

look for a used motu 828 or the like, a firewire i/f.
