Quite impressed with these wee Tbone SDC's!
      18/06/07 03:30 PM
So for father's day I had the perfect gift for my dad. A pair of SDC's from Thomann so he could record his town band practices. Only problem was I forgot all about fathers day till the wednesday so the mics didn't arrive in time. Add to that the fact that I lost the mini disc recorder I was going to give him (along with an old mini mixer) I decided either to hold off until his birthday which is coming up, or just let him use my soon to arrive Zoom H4 (can't wait!)

SOOOO....

In the mean time I thought I'd test them out (It had to be done)

I got the T-Bone SC140 Stereo set. And at £66ish I was pretty impressed! I've found myself lately wishing I had a few extra SDC's when mic'ing up larger kits for reinforcing certain cymbals etc. So I thought these would be perfect.

Next to my NT5's the mics sounded pretty similar. On hats I sometimes use the NT5 with it's foam windshield and roll off the bottom end at the mixer, however, with the T'Bone's 2 atage Roll off switch, the bottom end is already taken care of to some degree giving the final sound (again with a bass cut at the mixer) a much clearer and brighter sound. The same was true when mic'ing up the ride. All the brassy bass build up was smoothed out alot more than my NT5 allows. So I'm pretty chuffed really. I won't be using them for anything critical but for reinforcing cymbals etc and for around £30 each I can't complain!
