I forgot to mention that my sole "quality" mic was a very odd thing by Fostex with "dynamic flat ribbon microphone" or something on the box; still trying to work out what that was.
I think I moved up to a Microverb (the original) and then to a secondhand SPX90 Mk I a few years later but by then the digital/Atari 1040 rot had set in and it was never the same. Also I was making a (sort of) living from it so most of the fun went out of it.
The Mellotron stayed with me for a few years and 3 moves; it had a non-standard set of tapes and a second frame with it; there's a string set that made it onto loads of recordings I did and still sounds great when I listen to them now.
And you're absolutely right - I got far more done then than now!
