Sneaky virus alert
      07/09/04 05:43 PM
There are a number of "Dropper" virii that are quite nasty and are sneaking past anti-virus software, or cannot as of yet be fixed by them. I contracted one (actually several) recently, and AVG detected some of them, but was not able to heal them or move them to quarrantine. These were virii that I picked up surfing the Web for avatar images, and ran across some dodgy (not porn) websites that I suspect either were infected, or were put up to distribute these virii.

I found that "Spybot Search & Destroy" (free download) was able to get rid of these, but it should also be noted that these Dropper virii may also disable or in some way cripple Zone Alarm, etc., so it may be a good idea to reinstall these, as well as possibly you anti-virus software. I found some of this info on some security sites, because none of the anti-virus programs seem to be particularly aware of this virus . . . or at least they aren't talking about it. See also my post in this thread for more on this.
