Depends what DBX unit you mean. Something like the 386 for example is a much more coloured, characterful preamp, which gets more so the harder you drive it.

The Mico is primarily very clean and transparent, although the HMX control does allow it to do character and coloured if you want it to.

The Mico is more versatile and flexible. The DBX has a pleasant character if you like that kind of thing, but it doesn't do clean and transparent particularly well, so it depends what you want.
