FireWire issues with different lead...

Hi.

I posted a while back about wanting to get a longer FireWire cable for my Tacam FW-1884.

I've tried 2 high quality leads. Someone from here recommended Lindy, so I bought one of their leads (4.5m) and it doesn't work

I get a constant popping sound through my speakers like it's having trouble syncing and there is a massive delay from pressing play to my sequencer actually starting playback. Also on start-up sometimes it just doesn't even recognise there's a FireWire cable plugged in and other times the unit does some strange light show then looks like it's switched itself off.

Everything runs flawlessly on the supplied cable, so I can definitely rule out a faulty FW card or FW-1884.

Is there anything I can do?

I've emailed Tascam, but I don't hold much hope for a reply.
