Agreed - some musicians are already managing to run 80-in/8-out setups at 24-bit/44.1kHz with FireWire 400 audio interfaces, and even at 96kHz this would only reduce to about 40-in/40-out.

A single PCI soundcard can manage 32-in/32-out at 192kHz if you really need this sample rate (and very few people actually do), and Motu have apparently achieved 32-in/out operation with their 896HD system at 192kHz with a Mac system by connecting two units to the motherboard's FW800 ports, and a further two to FW800 ports on a PCI expansion card.

songwriter - in all honesty, unless you’re desperate for more simultaneous tracks than this a USB 3 audio interface simply isn’t necessary
