How about letting genuinely gay people take offense if they are offended?!
Oh! That's right - they probably won't because life's too short, the casual and nonchalant use of the word in context is understood and unremarkable and not worthy of further consideration.
I only say this as a non-gay friend of many homosexuals who get pissed off at straights taking offense on their behalf, however well intentioned.
Here's a suggestion....
Leave it to gays to take offense at the term in this context if they choose to!
Frankly, I doubt they will!
