Quote The Elf:
Yep. Show me a synth with a single sawtooth/square waveform and a filter and I’ll give you a TB303 impression that will fool 80% of the people 80% of the time.
This is such a strawman.
80% of the people will be happy with Reason.
The fact youre on a site for "geeks" (as opposed to listeners), and in the vintage section to boot, shows that you know/think/appreciate that certain synths are required for a certain sound. The 303s filter, oscilators and accent and glide are, virtually, unique. But your average Joe couldnt care less.
On top of that, you have a box which has single handedly defined an entire genre. On top of all the sociopolitical stuff about the acid house raves, thatchers government etc. And it was the first real punk synth, could be picked up by kids with no idea what theyre doing for peanuts, and make some noise! Blew away the shinyness, sterlilty and pretension of the 80s, and you didnt need a Fairlight, Jupiter or DX& to do it.
So its reasonably easy to see why they command such prices. Because there's so few of them, and the history associated with them, as much as theire 'unique' sound.
I cant stand Minimoog solos or Fake brass but people do and pay a fortune to get the real deal, even tho most people could make a reasonable (80%
) solo
in Arturia or any old synth.Peace.
