What's the hype with Bose?

I've heard so many people talk about Bose & how they make great speakers, but from what I've heard, I can't really see what the hype is. Don't get me wrong, they sound great, and have a flat response, from low to highs, but the sound is just, too flat. I heard a couple L1 + B1 systems, small and large, and some Bose on tripods, with some CV subs, and the sound is flat, but too flat. I may be missing something, but what's the big hype?
