I have a thrash metal gig coming up and I would appreciate any advice on getting the clicky kick sound associated with this genre.
At a previous event I used a Shure PG kick mic half way in the hole (not half way in the drum) and boosted the mids a bit around 5k, seemed to work ok.
I'm wondering if it would be an option to mic the front (drummer side) of the batter head with a 57. Points against are, no polarity switches on desk, and the general 'sqeeze a stannd in' type caffufle.
Should I convince the boss to hire a Beta91? Desk is old Mackie SR series - hi shelf 12k, swept mid 100-8k, low shelf 80Hz. Mic box includes the PG mentioned and a D112. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks
