I realise that it's probably a problem for you to do, but if it were me, I'd tell him to bin it and buy a decent amp. The MG series is just nasty sounding IMHO. I had a small one as a 'general knock about at low levels at home' amp and it was _awful_ - and that was with real guitars and guitarists as well as my mad fumblings. Someone has since borrowed it and tbh, I can't be bothered to remember who!
