"Milton Keynes" : "New World" Ha!
Careful now! Don't knock it. LOTS of good music of all sorts round MK. Plus you should see it right now- city of a million trees, all the blossom and sunshine. Love it.
I remember seeing sheet music for early Fairport Convention stuff with the song 'Reynardine' marked up as 'rubato'. Didn't know what it meant, and assumed it was to do with the spread, almost arpeggiated guitar chords, and continued to think that for years.
Here's a thought: someone notated that song for the music publishers from the record, and decided to mark it 'rubato'. But I bet the band didn't think "we'll play it 'rubato'". They just knew how they wanted express the music. So there's a difference between a composer writing a score and trying to impart information as to how he wants it played, and a notator trying to transcribe a piece as it was played. Don't know whether this gets us anywhere. I'll get back to the sunshine.
