Null tets are generally performed by inverting the output of one DAW and adding to the non-inverted output of another, both using the same input files. If they are the same then you'll get a file full of 0s.

The moment you through any additional processing in, though, you're not comparing like with like. There is no question that different EQ algorithms, for example, sound different, so Samplitude's EQ will sound different to Cubase's will sound different to Reaper's etc.

In my opinion, the word length issue is largely a non issue - that truncation will almost certainly be happening well below the noise floor of the source signal if you are working at 24 bits or more.
