While i deeply appreciate Narco's sentiments, for deeply selfish reasons.... i am mindful that the decision, or idea, would not have been Hugh's..... poor old chap goes where he's told and does what he does..... and then ends up defending other people's decisions ..... so , ease up a bit Narco....

I know, first hand, that Hugh HAS done significant work on article ideas along those lines, that have then never been published.... frankly a criminal waste of his talent and effort..... and of the goodwill offered by those involved.... but totally TOTALLY not his fault...... he DID the work..... but the editorial staff wasted it.... and note, i believe he does NOT get paid unless it gets printed..... so, he himself has invested in these efforts.... not SOS>...







and Hugh, you know really that 10K was a number Narco pulled out of thin air for purposes of debate.... not necessarily an actual thought through estimate of likely cost.... (although EASY to spend in those rooms)



however, i would point out that "seen as advertorial" is a bit of a wet blanket coverall cop out....


either, SOS engage with members of industry , or your articles end up being less relevant, less useful, and predictably all the same....


oh look, like Studio SOS typically is.

fine, spread the love around fairly.... but the premise that Narco outlines of "so and so does this job, and we went to see how" would frankly be more entertaining on many occasions than " we went and stuck foam on the walls again"

AND be beneficial in some small way to the health of the background industry that SOS broadly relies on for it;'s very existence....


the way things have gone over the last few years, many people are becoming less inclined to help out SOS>,


not just me.... and you know it.....

trouble is .... the staff in control, either don't believe it, or don't care, or are so wrapped up in being the worlds biggest and best recording tech mag, they've forgotten they get that way on the backs of others. (the contributors, the article subjects, and the other supportive industry guys who spread the gospel , support the mag, and generally help it maintain it's market penetration.... )





(I'd add that i suspect Narco's BEING here in SOS forums is evidence enough of the fact that he practices what he preaches.... i'm well aware of the fact that when he started out, all those years ago.... SOS was a very useful supply of expertise and knowledge.... and that he MORE than pays that "debt" daily with his input here...... .... not to mention the work he HAS spread around , he's not kidding or over stating it..... )
