OK, I'll stick my neck out... I actually enjoy X-Factor... There you go, I said it
I've watched a few, but don't find it entertaining, just tedious after a while. The 'sob stories' the incidental music designed to tug the heart strings and guide the viewer's response to what is presented. The identikit singers mixed with the novelty ones. It's not that they don't have some talent...maybe it's because it's not really a music show is it, the music is the least important thing about it – hence only short snippets of a song
I prefer to watch Britain's Got Talent, as it goes back to the days when variety appeared on TV not simply a procession of singers. it's a shame they have to include the 'mental health' auditionees at the early stages...why? Why not just showcase talent... why have the freak show? That aspect is very distasteful, inviting us to laugh at unfortunates... maybe that's the secret of the show's success... there aren't that many situations in modern society where you can mock the afflicted are there?
All that said, it’s a TV entertainment show and a highly successful one and no-one is forced to watch it.
