TR-606 Question

Hey all. I've been offered a non-functioning TR-606 for a low price. According to the seller, the unit powers on but he's unable to write patterns and the lights indicating a step is active don't work either. I did a bit of googling and it seems might be something related to a faulty memory chip? Is this something I could replace or do myself?
I'd really like to bring it back to life if I could. I love the 606.
