I'm looking to purchase some in-ear headphones for live gigs (mainly with Aviom systems). Can anyone kindly recommend any models that are found to sound good and are comfortable in a live situation (I've found that many headphones are more suited to hi-fi/iPod listening instead of live mixes).
Thanks much in advance!
Try the Westone's as already suggested, but there are also Shure's that are decent too. Depending on precisely what you're listening to, or rather what you want to pick out from your mix, you'll have to choose a set with the corresponding driver configuration. It's glossing over it somewhat, but, if they have seperate low/mid/high drivers then you'll get a better representation in your ears, the ACS's suggested are dual driver, but they're supposed to be very good. I use the Shure SE535's as I not only play keyboards in my in ear mix, which are full range, but guitar and vocals too, and I found that single driver in ears weren't accurate enough.
Sadly, different in ears suit different people, but, I'd suggest having a proper hearing test at an audiologist first as they'll pick out any gaps in your hearing and then from that you can choose a driver configuration that better suits your hearing range. Specsavers, for example, have a free 3 minute test that you can do and that'll give you a good representation of the state of your hearing.
As a parting shot, having custom moulds (which block out external noise) can turn an average pair of in ears into a good pair. I have moulds for my SE535's and they sound fantastic, and all at a low volume too.
