Its kinda funny that JLS and The Wanted were welcomed back as all-conquering heros. I remember them on the show and neither group could sing. OK they have had a year or two of voice coaching since then - but most of the sound is down to the patience and ingenuity of sound engineers - plus the intollerable autotune. But if groups like that can 'make it', well there's no point in complaining about the skill levels of the current crop of X-Factor hopefuls.

What is more worrying is that Syco is allowed to sign acts on contract terms that would seem harsh at a chinese Apple factory. Such is the price of fame.

btw someone mentioned that in the good ole days of the Beatles bands were songwriters - it should be noted that the Beatles were very unusual in this respect. I'd agree that the quality of performance was much higher, but Elvis, Sinatra and many others were Karaoke performers.
