only one drive controller can access at any one time...
getting an NAS drive is about the only option, as it's network attached, multiple machines can access it, although it still won't be truly simultaneous.... only one machine can request a read/write operation at any given absolute instant.... however, in practice that isn't an issue.
..... however, edits would not be reflected till saved, and you may not be able to save edits while playing/open in another application. or you might, but they may still not be reflected in the other application (if it's
loaded the file in to a ram cache, it may not be playing back from the original file, so the edits won't be apparent, until the file is closed and reopened. )
