XP is a serious downgrade from windows 7. If you want to go legit you can just buy a licence from microsoft and activate it that way without reinstalling anything.
Yes. Unfortunately, we're now at the point where latest versions of your favourite programs may not be compatible with XP. If the machine came with Vista, and has a Vista recovery partition, despite the issues with that Windows version I'd have to recommend considering to use it rather than XP.
I fear, however, that the procedure mentioned will merely be making a backup of the system in its present state, with the dodgy Windows 7.
There's also the issue that many laptops designed for XP or Vista can't cope with the power management system in Windows 7. Sometimes there's a BIOS update that fixes it. Sometimes there isn't.
Anyway, you've ordered the OEM XP. Try all the options. You've nothing to lose!
Apart from a load of time and effort. Get rid of the copy of XP and don't worry about a thing. If you want to activate windows click on the 'genuine advantage' thing and it will take you to the microsoft site where you will part with a load of cash. Stop finding solutions for problems that don't exist!
