If you want a fast booting PC download the developer version of Windows 8 & try it.
It is very "Mac" in its boot speed, quite unlike XP ( yawn, has it loaded yet ?? - no, still spinning away........ ) or W7.
There are some Youtube videos showing very impressive boot times.
I'll wager they are using an SSD as well as W8 to get those times, but the results are truly stunning !
Windows 8 Boot test ( YOU MUST SEE THIS ! )
Obviously, MS have stripped out alot of crap to get the boot time down & I bet there are no anti-virus libraries being loaded either, but this is simply stunning.
Impressive! I'd have liked to see the first application up and running though, rather than some unspecified opening screen. If you remember, Windows XP could get to the Desktop quite quickly, but it was (at least) as lond again before there was any point in opening an application!
I'm on a Windows 7 computer here, with os on a SSD. It takes 30s to get through POST (it's rather complicated on this machine). Once Windows kicks in, a further 30s dead until the Desktop, 2s later I'm downloading mail. I suspect a lot of this speed is down to "leave it for later". For instance, I use Offline Files to share data across a network. Previously this would start a synch routine immediately. Now it appears to hang around waiting for the system to become idle. I'm not sure I wouldn't rather have a slightly longer boot sequence but be sure everything was fully set up.
