Sorry, I should have been a little kinder about the occasional stabs at journalism Private Eye dose indeed attempt. It used to be quite good at it too, back in the day when its main purpose was to publish stories that were true but for whatever reason mainstream newspaper's legal people or editors had rejected. A good platform for frustrated journos and a great insight for the rest of us. But that was under a different editorship, in a different time and when Private Eye was still required reading. They can't even do satire right anymore most of the time. Just occasionally they manage to be funny, although sightings of genuine wit are rare these days. I still subscribe but now every fortnight, after its dropped through the letter box and I've flicked through it I find myself asking why I bother. Maybe if they dumped Hislop they could redeem themselves. He's worn thinner than his pate.
So I don't agree with you Korff. Private Eye and The Onion are very similar publications. And the Onion is better done.
