I've got a laptop with mechanical drives and a desktop with a SSD. Both running Windows 7.

The full-size machine does boot nice and quickly. But so does the laptop, and it isn't a night-and-day difference.

What IS different from earlier setups is that, when the desktop comes up, Windows 7 is just about ready for action. Earlier versions (even fresh installations) seemed to have much more "housekeeping" to do before they became responsive.
