Quote Dave B:
I'd forgotten about 'Forbidden Planet' - very good even if the music is a bit 'wibble and blip' early RCA synth noisy..
One of my favourites (which was recently on the box) was the original B+W version of "The Day the Earth Stood Still". Excellent stuff - and there was absolutely no need to remake it.
(Alien is still better than Aliens - different styles, etc and Aliens would have to be the Special Edition)
But then, I have a soft spot for the original "Thing From Another World" which was the godfather of most modern sci-fi horrors)
Still trying to decide on a fave ..
I seem to recall Forbidden planet won an Oscar for the soundtrack .
The Thing from Another Planet was the original version of The Thing , which itself was based on the short story "Who Goes There" (I think!) .
Have always loved sci-fi (even to the point I hate "they" are trying to rename the genre sifi due to the global decrease in IQ I presume) I'll have to think of my favourite ...
I'll have to mention Logan Run though , great film , with 70's styling , the panache of M York and J Agutter (not this over muscled male and silicone baps before skill of the ladies of today) ...
..and also so I post this (original?) blueprint if you fancy a DIY project :
