The sound appears to have gone now. I think your right... It was possibly a ground looping issue of some description. I'v recently moved some gear about and I guess it stopped around the same sort of time. I had bad ground loop in my old studio but that was a very different kind of noise. Anyway.... problem solved (forever I hope!)
