Sorry, my response was slightly obscure, what I meant to say was if the fans are =artificially= too fast then SMC might override the settings and slow them down. Otherwise the fans are running to serve a purpose and as noted above, you need to ask why.

I don't know how MacBook Pros are cooled - could it be an Xbox like problem and there's too much or misapplied thermal grease? If this were the case, then you would see an association between temperature and processor load rather than graphics load... just a thought.

Misapplied thermal grease could be fixed by an engineer without too much difficulty
