I'm giving my Terratec DMX 6 fire one last chance to work on Windows 7 64 bit before I
ditch it for a new one; but what to choose to replace it.
I'm still stuck on the idea of a PCI or PCI express card but there seems very little choice
around the £200 mark. Most of the non high end cards in the low latency perforance thread
seem to be firewire or USB.
I need at least two mic preamps preferably three plus a couple of other prefeably balanced
line ins. I also would like reasonably low latency performance for playing soft synths.
The only one that might fit the bill is the E-MU 1616m PCIe since it has 2 preamps and 6
line ins. However its quite old now and I'm not sure how the sound quality compares with more modern interfaces and whether it will work with Windows 7 64bit.
Alternatively M-Audio ProFire 610 is an option since my motherboard has a TI firewire chip,
but I'm not sure about the future compatibility of firewire divices
I'm put off the Focusright Saffire and Scrlett cards as the low latency performance seems
rather poor. The AKAI EIE Pro seems good on features but there are no reviews and it seems
as though no one has ever bought one. I thought the Roland Quad capture was ideal at first
until I relised two of the four inputs are spdif and I can't use these. The NI Komplete Audio 6 looks good and scores well in the low latency tests but I'm not sure about how good the preamps
are.
Has anyone tried any of these or have and other suggestions?
Any help will be much appreciated.
Cheers
Callum
